Dyslexia

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a disorder impacting the way written language is processed by the brain. A child who appears bright when speaking but struggles to read or write may be a common sign of dyslexia.

ADHD

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Dyslexia

ADHD is a neurobiological disorder often diagnosed in children and adolescents.  Children with ADHD often struggle with sustained attention and/or exhibit high levels of motor activity. New research points to an ADHD spectrum to account for the variations of this disorder that expand outside of the current 3 main subtypes: inattentive, hyperactive/impulsive or a combination of both.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder or ASD is a neurodevelopmental disorder of early childhood that makes social adaptation difficult. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2023): 1 in 36 children in the U.S. have autism. In the U.S., about 4 in 100 boys and 1 in 100 girls have autism. Boys are nearly 4 times more likely to be diagnosed with autism than girls.

Giftedness

Gifted children often have an exceptional memory and an ability to learn at a faster rate than their peers. Ironically, gifted children are some of the most underserved populations putting them at a higher risk for behavioral and emotional challenges.

Anxiety and Mood Disorders

Anxiety and Mood Disorders

Many children have fears and worries, and may feel sad and hopeless from time to time. However, persistent or extreme forms of fear and sadness could be due to anxiety or depression.

Learning Disabilities

Anxiety and Mood Disorders

According to the CDC, at least 1 in 59 children have one or more learning disabilities. In 2020, 7.6% of children ages 3–17 were reported to have been diagnosed with a learning disability by a school or health professional. LDs can take many different forms and range widely in severity. Some common areas of challenge may include reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), math (dyscalculia),  executive functioning, auditory processing, language and other areas of learning.
