Why Test?

The purpose of a psychoeducational assessment is to evaluate a student's cognitive, academic, and socio-emotional functioning to identify learning difficulties, potential disabilities and educational needs. It helps understand a student's strengths and weaknesses, inform educational planning, and provide recommendations for accommodations and support that would help a student thrive academically.

Depending on the school, these supports would be included in an IEP, 504 plan, or student support plan if it's a private school. Some examples of supports include: extra time allowance for exams, quiet testing area, small class placement, individualized instruction opportunities, less amount of classwork, preferential seating, assignment of a reading specialist, occupational therapy, speech therapy, counseling, ABA therapy or social skills classes, quiet zone for students who struggle with anxiety or sensory differences and others.

Homeschooling families can also benefit from a psychoeducational assessment as it helps provide important information for effective lesson planning, comply with annual evaluation requirements and rule out disabilities that could qualify for the FES-UA scholarship.

Early intervention affords the best opportunity to support healthy development and deliver benefits across the lifespan. In fact, new research shows that children who receive early intervention may outgrow many of the features associated with autism spectrum and ADHD. Don't wait for things to get better on their own, your child deserves a fair chance to succeed in school and in life.
